All forest personnel should get vaccinated: Indrakaran Reddy

The government has instructed the district medical officers to make arrangements for administering Covid-19 vaccine for forest department personnel on priority.

Hyderabad: In the wake of increasing coronavirus cases, Forests and Environment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy wanted all the forest personnel working in the fields to get vaccinated like frontline warriors in other departments. He said the forest department was taking all precautionary measures in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases.

There are nearly 4,000 field level personnel on duty in the Forest department who are working for fire prevention, curbing hunting and smuggling activities.

The State government has also identified the forest department personnel as frontline warriors. The government has instructed the district medical officers to make arrangements for administering Covid-19 vaccine for forest department personnel on priority. Following these instructions, the forest department field level staff working in different districts are taking the vaccine in coordination with the medical staff.

“The forest department staff can protect the forest resources and wildlife, only when they are healthy,” said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) R Shobha.

Besides vaccination, the staff at field level were directed strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines and were asked to take all the precautions while attending to the duties. The PCCF briefed the Minister about the vaccine administration to the forest personnel.

The Minister lauded the initiative and asked the forest officials in all the districts to get all the field level personnel and watchers on duty at various Forest base camps, vaccinated without fail.

At Aranya Bhavan, the headquarters of forest department, the authorities are also taking all precautionary measures. In addition to sanitisation twice each day, the staff are made to wear the masks properly and maintain physical distance. Limited entry of visitors is being permitted at the office.
