Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra urged the Telangana government to allocate Rs 5,000 crore to the Munnuru Kapu Corporation. He also sought Cabinet representation for the community, stressed BC unity and pledged support for a function hall in Khammam.
Khammam: Rajya Sabha member and Telangana Munnuru Kapu Sangham honorary president Vaddiraju Ravichandra has demanded that the Congress government allocate Rs 5,000 crore in the State Budget for the Telangana Munnuru Kapu Corporation.
He said allocating the funds would greatly benefit Munnuru Kapu youth, women and impoverished farmers. He participated in the swearing-in ceremony of the sangham’s new district committee here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravichandra said he had always worked towards demonstrating unity through the unanimous election of sangham committees. He lauded the sangham leaders for unanimously electing the new Khammam district committee, transcending party lines.
He noted that Munnuru Kapus constitute the largest population among the Backward Classes (BCs). In the past, leaders such as V Hanumantha Rao, D Srinivas, Keshava Rao and Ponnala Lakshmaiah had all the qualifications to become Chief Minister but missed the opportunity at the last moment.
Ravichandra regretted that the Munnuru Kapu community had not secured representation in Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet for the first time, describing it as unfortunate. He demanded that the community be given a place in the Cabinet.
He said political power could be secured by uniting the Backward Classes, who constitute 56 per cent of the population. He pledged his support for the development of the Munnuru Kapu function hall in Khammam.
The MP noted that after the formation of Telangana, the previous BRS government had allocated five acres of land, worth crores of rupees, to the Munnuru Kapu Sangham, which had previously operated through various fragmented groups and societies.
Sangham state vice-president Akula Gandhi, leaders Para Nageswara Rao, Podila Ravi Kumar, Dandi Suresh, Seelamsetti Veerabhadram, Pasupuleti Devendram and others were present.
