Hyderabad: Government buses have for long been the butt of jokes for many, but from now, ridiculing the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation or portraying public transport that is a godsend for many who cannot afford private transport, will not be taken lightly.
The man at the helm, VC Sajjanar, is already sending signals, with Telugu star Allu Arjun to be the first to face the music.
Allu Arjun’s advertisement for bike taxi app Rapido, in which he is seen showing a crowded RTC bus and telling a youngster that RTC buses take more time to reach their destination and to instead download the app and opt for Rapido, apparently has not amused Sajjanar and a lot of RTC passengers as well.
Objecting to the ad, which saw many RTC fans raising their voice against it, Sajjanar said demeaning the TSRTC would not be tolerated by the management either. Stating that actors should act in advertisements that promote public transport for a better society and a clean environment, Sajjanar said the TSRTC would send a legal notice to the actor and to the firm promoting the advertisement.
The authorities have already registered cases against those putting up stickers and pamphlets in buses and bus stations and also on those who are spitting pan and gutkha in buses and outside, he said.
Sajjanar requested all celebrities and eminent personalities who are in a position to influence public opinion to desist from promoting content that is detrimental to public transportation and public good.
