Amit Shah to launch ‘Bharat Taxi’ cooperative ride-hailing platform in Gujarat
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch the driver-owned ‘Bharat Taxi’ initiative in Gandhinagar, a zero-commission cooperative ride-hailing platform. He will also inaugurate the PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project during his two-day Gujarat visit
Gandhinagar: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Gujarat on June 27 and 28, where he will preside over the launch of the ‘Bharat Taxi’ initiative in Gandhinagar before inaugurating the ‘PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project’ the following day.
According to the official programme schedule, HM Shah will chair the Bharat Taxi launching programme at Mahatma Mandir on Friday. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Cooperation’s efforts to expand cooperative-based services and is designed as a driver-owned ride-hailing platform.
Unlike conventional app-based aggregators, Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission model under which drivers retain earnings from fares while also sharing in the platform’s profits.
The service allows passengers to book taxis, auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers; and has been introduced initially in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with a phased nationwide expansion planned over the next two to three years.
Speaking at the national launch of Bharat Taxi earlier this year, HM Shah had said, “In three years, Bharat Taxi will be rolled out across the country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Dwarka to Kamakhya.”
He also said the initiative would benefit drivers by ensuring that profits are shared with those associated with the platform rather than being retained by private aggregators.
On Saturday, the Home Minister will launch the PM Family Care Tracker Pilot Project at the Town Hall in Gandhinagar. The event is expected to initiate the project’s pilot phase before any wider expansion.
The engagements form HM Shah’s latest official visit to Gujarat, following a series of recent public programmes across the country.
HM Shah was last in Gujarat on June 21, when he participated in the ’12th International Day of Yoga’ celebrations in Ahmedabad. The nationwide observance was held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
In a post on social media platform X after the event, HM Shah said: “Yoga is India’s invaluable gift to humankind which nourishes holistic well-being through energising mind, body and soul. Joined millions across the world in Yoga Day celebration by participating in a public yoga session in Ahmedabad.”
During the same visit, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the state-level Yoga Day programme at Mansa in Gandhinagar district, while yoga events were organised across Gujarat as part of the nationwide celebrations.
