Amitabh Bachchan reveals why he has worn the same tinted glasses for 25 years
Amitabh Bachchan shared the emotional reason behind wearing the same tinted glasses for 25 years on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati, saying the subtle tint helps conceal signs of ageing in his eyes. The new season premieres on August 10.
Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan made a surprising yet emotional reveal on the sets of his quiz reality show, Kaun Banega Crorepati after he revealed the reason for wearing the same goggles with a tint for the last 25 years.
The veteran actor revealed that he had added a subtle tint to his glasses to conceal the signs of ageing in his eyes, joking that a person’s age is often reflected through their eyes.
He recalled a conversation with the crew over his spectacles, saying, “Koi bolega sir joh aapka chasma haina woh galat hai, humne kaha kya galat hai yaar, main pacchees saal se yahi to chasma pehen raha hu, bolein nahi Sir, usmein yellow-yellow aaraha hain, humne kaha haan use thoda sa tint kiya hai, nahi sir wo gadbad hojayga. Maine kaha dekho bhaisahaab, vrudhawsta mein ek vrudh ki umar kaise pata chalti hai, uski aakhon se, toh humari aakh joh hai woh vrudhawasta mai pahuch gai hai to usko chupane ke liye ek joh hai thodasa tint maardiya.”
(Someone came up and said, “Sir, your glasses aren’t right.” I replied, “What’s wrong with them? I’ve been wearing these same glasses for 25 years!” They said, “No Sir, there’s a yellowish tint showing up.” I told them, “Yes, I’ve added a slight tint.” They insisted, “No Sir, that will affect the shoot.” So I said, “Look, brother, how do you recognise an elderly person’s age? Through their eyes. My eyes have reached old age, so I just added a little tint to hide it.”)
Before sharing the anecdote, Amitabh warmly greeted the audience and apologised for the delay in the recording. He went on to explain that the first day of a new season involves several technical adjustments and fine-tuning.
He said, “Sabse pehle haath jodkar maafi mangte hai, der hogai kyunki aaj yeh pehla recording hai, iss naye daur ka. Toh choti-moti cheezein joh set karne mai samay lagta hain.”
(First of all, I fold my hands and apologize for the delay because today is the very first recording of this new era. So, setting up all those small, intricate things takes time.)
Just days before the shoot, Amitabh had revealed on his personal blog that he had been working continuously for nearly 24 hours for Kaun Banega Crorepati. The new season is set to premiere on August 10
