Launched in February this year by Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Mahabharata Kalpataruvu – Kavitraya Mahabharata Kathalu, authored by Sri Kalapurna Viswanadha Sobhanadri comprises 225 short stories of the epic with 175 illustrations. The book has foreword by the Vice-President, Avadhoota Datta Peetham’s Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swami, his successor Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swami, and renowned guru Kuppa Venkata Krishna Murthy.
The Hyderabad-based author explains the reason behind bringing out his sixth book, when many such books are already available in the market. He says, “These days, people have forgotten the habit of reading. So, to bring back that enthusiasm and interest in children and adults, I thought of writing short stories which can be read in three-four minutes rather than a long run-on.”
Usually, authentic books on mythology available in the market are huge and have continuation stories. If you don’t read the first page, you won’t be able to understand the next, explains Sobhanadri who “separated the stories, according to the scenes so one can start reading the book anywhere in their free time”. It took him six months to write and proof-read the stories, while the eye-catching illustrations are done by artist Sunithavaas. The book is priced at Rs 800.
