Hyderabad: Residents of Anandbagh in Malkajgiri on Monday complained about recurring, unscheduled power outages that have severely disrupted their daily lives. The power cuts, lasting between three and five hours during peak summer, have left residents distressed, locals said.

Suresh, a member of the local Resident Welfare Association (RWA), said that the outages have triggered a secondary crisis by disrupting the drinking water supply provided by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

As local borewells have completely dried up, residents are entirely dependent on the Water Board. However, the unscheduled power cuts disable domestic electric motors during the critical hours of water supply, leaving families without drinking water.

The outages have also taken a toll on vulnerable groups. “Senior citizens and patients undergoing treatment for chronic medical conditions are suffering. Extended power cuts have spoiled critical medicines requiring continuous refrigeration, resulting in financial losses worth thousands of rupees, along with significant health risks,” residents complained.

Residents have urged TGSPDCL to intervene urgently to halt peak-hour outages and restore an uninterrupted power supply.

When contacted, Mohammed Anwar Pasha, TGSPDCL Divisional Engineer (Operation-Sainikpuri), told Telangana Today that the disruptions were temporary. “As part of pre-monsoon preparedness, we undertook the trimming of tree branches in Anandbagh and had to suspend power supply during the process. This is a routine safety practice ahead of the monsoon to prevent untoward incidents,” he said.

Pasha added that TGSPDCL had already issued a public advisory regarding scheduled maintenance between 8 am and 5 pm, assuring that normal power supply would resume as soon as the work was completed.
