Amaravati: The bodies of two persons who drowned in the sea at Suryaraopet beach in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada were recovered on Monday.

Search teams retrieved the bodies of the two youths, who drowned on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Padala Yuva Kishore (20) and Anusuri Veerababu (21).

A group of four youths, all residents of Kakinada, had gone to the beach on Sunday, and while bathing, they started drowning.

The beachgoers rescued two youths — A. Sri Ganesh Chanti, 21, and 19-year-old K.A.V. Sandeep Kumar. However, two others went missing, and a search operation was launched to trace them.

The rescue teams resumed the search on Monday morning and traced the bodies.

Police shifted the bodies to Government General Hospital, Kakinada, for post-mortem examination.

Police registered a case and took up investigation.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had directed the authorities to intensify the search operations for the missing youths.

He spoke to the Kakinada Superintendent of Police and inquired about the incident. The SP informed him that the youths drowned due to strong waves

The Deputy Chief Minister expressed concern over the tragedy. He directed that the search operations being conducted to trace the missing youths be intensified further.

He also advised the official to take the assistance of expert swimmers, special rescue teams, marine police, coast guard, along with local fishermen groups.

Pawan Kalyan had instructed local MLA Panthangi Nana to remain available to families of the missing youth and provide information from time to time.

Andhra Pradesh has nearly 1,000 km coastline. Incidents of drowning have been occurring at beaches in the state.

Despite warnings by authorities and all precautions, visitors enter the water and become victims of strong waves.

Two youths went missing after being swept away by strong waves at Old Gangavaram Beach in Visakhapatnam on August 2. A jolly trip of a group of friends on the occasion of Friendship Day had turned tragic.
