Andhra Pradesh: 9 killed in blast at quarry in Kadapa district
About 20 workers belonging to Pulivendula, Badvel and Kasinayana mandals were working at the quarry and a few of them were engaged in unloading of the gelatin sticks.
Kadapa: Nine labourers were killed and many others were seriously injured when a blast occurred while unloading gelatin sticks at Mamillapalli village of Kalasapadu mandal in the district on Saturday.
About 20 workers belonging to Pulivendula, Badvel and Kasinayana mandals were working at the quarry and a few of them were engaged in unloading of the explosive sticks from the truck which arrived from Badvel.
Suddenly, there was a blast as the gelatin sticks rubbed against the sides of the truck, according to information reaching here. The labourers were found torn to pieces due to the powerful impact of the blast which occurred with a deafening sound.
Superintendent of Police Anburajan, Member of Legislative Council Govinda Reddy and others rushed to the spot and police have begun probing the incident.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan expressed shock at the incident and enquired with the officials the cause for the blast. They conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families.
