Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday decided to set up a house committee to probe the allegations of purchase of Pegasus spyware by the previous Telugu Desam Party government. While announcing the decision, Speaker Tammineni Sitaram said that the members of the committee would be finalised in a couple of days.

Referring to allegations in West Bengal Legislative Assembly by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a couple of days ago Chandrababu Naidu had purchased Pegasus spyware in Andhra Pradesh after she declined to buy it, the ruling YSR Congress Party members went hammer and tongs against the opposition TDP in the house.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy alleged that the previous TDP government had resorted to a serious crime with ulterior motives through purchase of the spyware. It had called for tenders and four firms filed the bids. However, three of them left, finally leaving just one which was floated only one month before the tenders by Chetan, who was son of the then Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao, close to Chandrababu Naidu and visited Israel in connection with the deal which was done through unofficial channel.

Education minister Adimoolapu Suresh, YSRCP legislators Ambati Rambabu, Gudivada Amaranath and Abbaiah Choudhary alleged that Chandrababu Naidu always practised unethical politics and pressed for the inquiry.
