According to police, Kalyanam Venkanna of Chatti village in Chinturu mandal of East Godavari districts has two wives. He began suspecting their fidelity and started torturing them.

On April 3 he took his second wife to the village goddess and made her swear by immersing her hand in hot oil. On April 5, he tried to chop off the nose and ears of his first wife at his residence.

On the same day, he took his second wife into the nearby woods, doused her in petrol and set fire to her. She ran to her mother’s place with burns and complained to Chinturu police on April 16.

Police, who are investigating, also found a selfie video Venkanna took while torturing his first wife.
