Andhra Pradesh police arrest 15 TDP, BJP workers in temple attack case

Andhra Pradesh DGP Gautam Sawang disclosed that 13 political activists owing allegiance to the Telugu Desam Party and two from the BJP were arrested

Amaravathi: Andhra Pradesh DGP Gautam Sawang has disclosed that the police investigators have identified 21 political activists belonging to the opposition Telugu Desam and BJP who were allegedly involved in the temple attack cases or in spreading false information about temple attacks in social media.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, Sawang disclosed that 13 political activists owing allegiance to the Telugu Desam Party and two from the BJP were arrested while rest of them were absconding. Sawang said as many as 17 accused with known ties to the TDP and four accused affiliated to the BJP have been identified in nine such cases. While 15 of them have been arrested by far, the hunt for the rest is still on. He said “certain people belonging to certain political factions with vested interests are intentionally resorting to false propaganda to further their political agenda’.


Sawang released the list of suspects and those arrested which included Challa Madhusudhan Reddy of the TDP and the BJP Dompet mandal secretary Konchada Ravikumar.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has already gone on record listing out nine instances of such false reports of attacks on temples being unleashed by the Opposition just a day before the Government was to announce major welfare initiatives. The police had registered 44 cases pertaining to Idol thefts, Idol Desecrations, digging the temple premises and vandalisation. While 29 of them have already been detected, investigation is continuing in respect of others. The Government , with the help of the police force has got as many as 44,451 CCTV cameras installed in 13,296 temples across the state, apart from farming 18,050 Grama Security Teams, an official press release said here on Friday.
