Visakhapatnam: Hundreds of teachers stormed the district collectorates on Thursday in protest against the new pay revision commission wages.

The protests, in response to a call of the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisations (FAPTO), led to tension with the police stopping their surge and taking into custody the leaders apprehending law and order problem.

At Kurnool, BJP state president Somu Veerraju demanded cancellation of the PRC GO and inviting the employees for talks again. “The government cannot function without employees who are going through difficulties with house rentals on the high and reduction of HRA. Instead of being employees-friendly, the government is inimical towards them. No state government took such decisions and the BJP will support the employees,” he stated.

In Visakhapatnam, the Forum for Development of North Andhra condemned the police action against the teachers most of them were house-arrested in the morning. They were even threatened at some places, Forum general secretary A. Aja Sarma alleged here on Thursday.

“Unlike in the past, the government did not make public the PRC report. On top of it, it announced only 23 per cent fitment arbitrarily against the 27 per cent interim relief already it was paying. The house rend allowance was reduced and the government has also gone back on its promise of scrapping contributory provident fund scheme. The most reactionary step was to announce that PRC hereafter would be every ten years instead of five years. By increasing the retirement age, it has caused disappointment to the unemployed. There was also no mention of regularisation of contract employees, and all this does not augur well,” he pointed out.
