Mangalagiri: A woman murdered her husband, smashing his head with a hand pounder in Tadikonda near here on Saturday. According to police, Chilaka Ramesh and Nirmala of Tadikonda village fell in love with each other and got married a decade ago. Ramesh who worked as a security guard, suffered from a stroke five years back and recovered. But after that, the couple were seen engaged in quarrels regularly and Ramesh had told his elder brother that his wife even attempted to kill him a couple of times.
On Friday night, during another bout of heated exchanges, Nirmala had smashed her husband’s head with a hand pounder. She told the neighbours Ramesh had swooned and fell and shifted him to Guntur General Hospital in 108 ambulance, where he died on Saturday. On Sunday, when his elder brother came for attending final rites, he spotted an injury on Ramesh’s head and immediately complained to the police who took Nirmala and her family members into custody. During interrogation, Nirmala confessed to the crime and further investigation is on.
