Hyderabad: In a first, Andhra Pradesh is set to construct houses for poor families using 3D concrete-printing technology in the state.
The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan laid the foundation stone for the project at Burripalem village in Guntur district on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Naidu said initially the Centre approved 75,000 houses for the Telugu state but later it considered the special request from the state government and sanctioned additional three lakh houses for poor families.
The chief minister said the state requires a total of nine lakh houses to provide shelter for the homeless people and the NDA-led government is committed to ensuring permanent homes for poor families. Expressing confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu said with the Centre’s continued support, Andhra Pradesh would emerge as the country’s leading state in infrastructure and rural development.
The project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 scheme. As part of the scheme, the state government will construct three lakh houses for the beneficiaries. Guntur district has been selected for the national-level pilot project, with 117 houses to be constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore at Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem in Tenali mandal.
The 3D concrete-printing technology is expected to herald a new era in modernising rural housing. The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) has been tasked with technical supervision of the project. According to reports, the pilot project will be completed in six months, with 10 days allocated for the construction of each house using this advanced technology.
