Mahabubnagar: Congress MLA from Jadcherla, J Anirudh Reddy, has openly opposed the possible re-entry of former MLA Erra Shekhar into the Congress, citing his controversial past.
Without directly naming Shekhar, Anirudh Reddy said, “There is news that a person who killed his own brother for the Sarpanch post is planning to join the Congress. If such a person continues in politics, he might even kill me for the MLA post.”
He further remarked, “Should I seek Z category security from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, citing a threat from such people?”
Erra Shekhar, who defected from the Congress to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) before the Assembly elections, is reportedly planning to return to the Congress after being promised a designated post.
However, Anirudh Reddy strongly opposed such a move, stating that the party had its own principles and discipline. Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, he said TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had clearly mentioned that those who deserted the Congress earlier would not be taken back.
He added that not only in Jadcherla but MLAs from Narayanpet, Deverkadra and Mahabubnagar constituencies were also against allowing leaders who had worked against the party during the elections. “They will not be given appointments and will be sent back from the gates,” he said.
“We do not want faction politics back in the district. We are living peacefully,” Anirudh Reddy asserted.
