Anjaiah Nagar collapse: CMC demolishes 17 unauthorised buildings

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation has intensified action against unauthorised constructions following the Anjaiah Nagar building collapse that killed two workers. On Tuesday, 17 buildings were demolished, 11 notices served and 54 more unauthorised constructions identified across three zones.

Hyderabad: Following the death of two workers when an illegally built 7-storeyed structure collapsed at Anjaiah Nagar on Sunday, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has intensified enforcement against unauthorised under-construction buildings across the corporation limits.

Following the directions of the CMC Commissioner, G Srijana, the enforcement drive on Tuesday demolished 17 unauthorised constructions that included seven buildings in Serilingampally zone, two buildings in Kukatpally zone and eight in Quthbullapur zone.

In addition to the demolitions, 11 notices were served to unauthorised constructions identified during the enforcement process. Further, 54 unauthorised constructions were identified through multiple sources, including MyCURE, Prajavani petitions and field-level identification by officers.

The identification and enforcement process is being carried out on a continuous basis to ensure that unauthorised constructions are detected at the earliest stage and necessary action is taken promptly, a press release said.

The Commissioner has directed the Town Planning and enforcement teams to maintain daily field-level monitoring, strengthen identification of unauthorised constructions and ensure timely enforcement action in accordance with the applicable rules.

Meanwhile, the Raidurgam police on Tuesday took Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin into custody in connection with the building collapse, while Moinuddin, the contractor who had been absconding since the incident, was cited as an accused along with building owner Syed Sajid in the case.

Police had launched a search for the contractor after arresting Sajid on Monday.
