Anjaiah Nagar incident: UFERWAS seeks accommodation for 30 evacuated families

UFERWAS has urged Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G Sriajana to provide government accommodation for 30 families evacuated from two Gachibowli apartment complexes after an illegally constructed building collapsed. It also sought Rs 2 lakh for each affected family.

Hyderabad: The United Federation of RWAs (Uferwas), Cyberabad Chapter, on Thursday urged Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G Srijana to provide government accommodation for 30 families evacuated from two apartment complexes in Gachibowli.

CMC, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency and police evacuated the families from Jayadarsini Residency and Sterling White Field Apartments after an illegally constructed seven-storey building at Anjaiah Nagar collapsed onto the adjoining complexes.

The collapsed building had been constructed on 48 sq yards. The adjoining complexes have 58 flats, with 30 families residing there. Flats from the first to fifth floors of C-Block and household goods worth about Rs 1 crore were damaged, Uferwas said. It said the families, including children and a 90-year-old woman, had stayed in private hotels or with relatives at their own expense for four days.

Uferwas welcomed CMC’s demolition action but said legal flat owners had been rendered homeless through no fault of their own. It also sought Rs 2 lakh for each affected family towards emergency shifting, rent and loss of essential goods.

In a representation, Uferwas sought accommodation for one month at State guesthouses in Lake View or four- or five-star hotels near Gachibowli at government expense. It said accommodation was required until structural stability reports were completed and the flats were declared safe for re-entry.
