Hyderabad: Former MP and TPCC working president Anjan Kumar Yadav has staked his claim to contest the Jubilee Hills by-poll, citing his seniority in the Congress party, and demanded a cabinet berth if he wins.
Pointing out that he was twice elected from the Secunderabad Parliamentary Constituency, Anjan Kumar Yadav said he had ensured the development of the Jubilee Hills Assembly segment through MPLADS funds.
Speaking informally with reporters here on Saturday, he said he was among the senior-most leaders in the party. “I am eligible by all means. There is no representation from GHMC limits and the party should offer me the ticket and a cabinet berth,” he asserted.
On the Congress party’s norm that two members from one family should not be given tickets, the former MP reminded that he and his son had together participated in agitations in the past. “Why was no restriction imposed then? My son Anil Kumar Yadav was offered a Rajya Sabha seat under the Youth Congress quota. We are not parachute leaders,” he maintained.
He further said that offering cabinet representation to the Yadav community had been a long-standing practice, and urged the party to continue it by giving him a berth after the by-poll.
