Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) which is serving hot and hygienic meals for Rs 5 through Annapurna canteens gave a pleasant surprise on Monday to its beneficiaries who visited one of its canteen located opposite to the GHMC Kukatpally zonal office.
The refurbished meal centre complete with seating arrangements was inaugurated by Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao and V Mamatha, zonal commissioner of Kukatpally.
Pointing out at the illumination, colourful interiors and ventilation, a beneficiary said the canteen gave a feeling of having a meal at a restaurant. “The food was always tasty and hygienic and with the new facilities, we now don’t have to stand and have our meal,” said Yadaiah, a construction worker.
The Annapurna canteen is the first one to have seating arrangement and five such centres are coming up in the Kukatpally zone.
There are 200 Annapurna canteens in the GHMC limits serving over 60,000 people every day. The Rs 5 meals comprise rice, vegetable curry, sambar and pickle. The GHMC in association with Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Trust operates these canteens.
