Adilabad: Another farmer died by suicide after being distressed over poor yield at Guda village in Bhoraj mandal on Monday. The district saw six farmer deaths in a span of 20 days.

Police said that Padhane Ravi (52) from the village attempted to kill himself on Saturday. He was shifted to RIMS-Adilabad. He breathed his last during treatment in the afternoon.

Ravi raised cotton, soybean and other crops on his four-acre landholding and eight acres of leased land. He was reportedly depressed over the poor growth of the cotton crop caused by adverse climatic conditions. He was distressed about whether he would be able to get a high yield, his wife alleged.

Based on a complaint received from Ravi’s wife, Gouribai, a case has been registered. Investigations have been taken up.

On October 15, in two separate incidents, two farmers resorted to the drastic step as they were depressed over their inability to repay loans. Earlier, three farmers were forced to end their lives after being distressed over crop failure and a dip in soybean yield between October 7 and 9.

Meanwhile, former minister Jogu Ramanna slammed the government for neglecting the agrarian crisis. He said that the government was showing indifference towards supporting farmers despite repeated cautions. He demanded that both the State and Union governments announce relief measures for farmers immediately.
