Nizamabad: A second-year Intermediate student of Velpur Social Welfare Boys Residential College died by suicide on the outskirts of Armoor on Saturday, raising fresh concerns over student safety and mental health in government residential institutions in the State.
The student, G Santosh, a native of Arepally in Nizamsagar mandal, was pursuing BiPC at the college. As per reports, he arrived at the college ground around 6.30 am for routine morning drills. After a while, he left the ground and did not return.
When he failed to show up at the hostel, his friends began searching and eventually found him hanging from a tree outside the college premises.
The Velpur and Armoor residential colleges currently operate from the same premises. Students and staff expressed concern over how Santosh managed to exit the premises unnoticed, hinting at possible security lapses.
The college management informed the police, who have registered a case. Further investigation is underway.
