Anti-Pharma City panel questions Revanth over Future City land issue

Hyderabad: A day after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asked farmers to accept the compensation being offered by the State government for Future City development, the Anti-Pharma City Struggle Committee reminded him of his past promises and demanded that he fulfil the assurances made to farmers.

While in the opposition, Revanth Reddy had conducted a padayatra and assured farmers that he would protect their lands. He, along with other senior Congress leaders, had asked the farmers not to part with their lands for Pharma City. However, after coming to power, the Chief Minister was now asking the same farmers to give up their lands for Future City, the Anti-Pharma City Struggle Committee said in a statement.

The Congress Ministers claimed that the Pharma City project had been cancelled. Yet, even today, the Pharma City government order has not been withdrawn, the Committee said.

Just five km from the venue where the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the Future City Police Commissionerate building on Tuesday, tribal farmers have been staging a relay hunger strike for the last 46 days.

Farmers from Kurumidda, Tatiparthi, Nanaknagar and Medipally had approached the court and obtained stay orders.

Now, the farmers, including Kundarapu Narayana, Vislavath Sattulal, Nenavath Pantya, Vislavath Jyothi, Panga Anasuya, Barla Mallesh, Bukka Chennaiah, Gaddam Ravinder, Panga Mannemma, Devotion, Somaiah, Mandal Ramulu and others, made a suggestion to the Chief Minister.

“If our lands are required for development, then the Chief Minister and his party leaders should offer their lands to us and build new villages,” the farmers suggested.

Instead of appealing to small and marginal farmers owning one to two acres to sacrifice their lands in the name of Future City development, that sacrifice should begin with the Chief Minister and his party leaders. By doing so, their names would be etched in history, they urged.

The Anti-Pharma City Struggle Committee also shared a picture of Revanth Reddy with Kundarapu Narayana when he had met him during the padayatra.
