Visakhapatnam: The All-India Defence Employees Federation on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration in the city against privatization and closing down of DRDO schools across India.

The federation members -staff of Ramanath secondary school, NSTL (Naval Science and Technological Laboratory) here, expressed shocked at the Centre’s decision to stop funding all the DRDO aided schools. Following the Centre’s decision, the NSTL School under the DRDO is trying to transfer the management to private institutions and a few schools aided by DRDO are on the verge of closure due to lack of support (financial–aid ) from DRDO headquarters, they pointed out.

This policy decision to terminate the central funding of DRDO run schools from DRDO headquarters after March 31 this year has created panic among the the school staff who are the stakeholders of the school providing education to more than 400 students in Ramanath secondary school for more than 40 years.

The school management is making efforts to continue the running of the school but the pay and allowances of teaching and non teaching staff remains uncertain.
