Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh government is proposing to develop logistics parks at Visakhapatnam and Anantapur. Informing this while inaugurating through virtual mode here on Wednesday the third edition of the Conference on Logistics focusing on the theme `Efficient and resilient supply chain-creating a sustainable logistics sector’, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) AP chapter, Special Chief Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce in Andhra Pradesh, R Karikala Valaven, said that integrated logistics is the need of the hour to drive growth in logistics sector.

Pointing out that Andhra Pradesh is the only State in the country where three industrial corridors pass through, namely Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial corridor, Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridor and Bangalore-Hyderabad industrial corridors, he said that the proposed nod in these corridors would attract greater investments into the State and several large-scale enterprises were showing interest to set up their base.

Observing that sustainable logistics is essential for industrial growth and development and the Government is also planning to promote marine economic zones to accelerate growth and development, he also said that all airports in the State would have cargo facilities for exporting various goods and services. In this context, he noted that the Electronic Manufacturing cluster at Tirupati is creating adequate demand for Tirupati Airport.


The proposed Fishing harbours in the State would also have jetties to reduce the logistics cost. The Government is keen to provide an institutional framework to encourage logistics, he added.

Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust K. Rama Mohana Rao in his address said that Andhra Pradesh has the logistics advantage due to its strategic location. He felt that Visakhapatnam as a region could emerge as a distribution hub for the country. He was of the view that the Bharatmala initiative enabled the creation of the required infrastructure to promote Visakhapatnam as the best destination for the industry.

Chief Commissioner, Customs, Central Tax and Central Excise, Visakhapatnam Zone, Suresh Kishnani felt that logistics played a vital role in achieving a $5 trillion economy. The Customs department has adopted faceless assessment to ease the operations for the industry during Covid-19, he stated.

Lt Cdr Ravindranath Reddy, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board said that Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board is responsible for developing and managing the maritime economy in the State.

The warehousing facilities need to be developed on international standards. Mr Anil Narayanan, Convenor CII Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure & Logistics Panel & Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Visakha Container Terminal Private Ltd delivered the theme address at the virtual Conference.

D Tirupathi Raju, Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh and Executive Chairman, Vijay Nagar Biotech Pvt Ltd in his welcome address felt that Andhra Pradesh is embarking upon an infrastructure-led development strategy to meet its objectives of inclusive development. He was of the view that Port Led Development is envisaged for the State where integration between infrastructure and industry would help to accelerate industrial growth.
