Hyderabad: Reacting strongly to the show-cause notice issued to him by the Apex Council, Hyderabad Cricket Association president Mohammed Azharuddin once again reiterated that the meeting was illegal.

“How can they issue a show-cause notice to me when the meeting was itself an illegal one? In fact, the Apex Council members need to give reply to the show-notice issued to them. We need to take drastic steps against these illegal meetings,” he said.

Azharuddin said he had written a letter to the secretary (R Vijayanand) on June 6 to not to conduct any meetings as it is illegal. “I caution you to cease and desist from indulging in any acts which are contrary to the Rules and Regulations of HCA. Failing which I shall be constrained to move to the Court of Law to seek appropriate recourse against the office-bearers cum apex council members.”

The former Indian captain further pointed out: “Any Apex meeting convened by you (secretary) without the concurrence of the president is illegal, invalid and in violation of Rule 7 (3) of the constitution. Going forward, after the enquiry by Ombudsman is complete, you are hereby instructed to comply with the provisions of the constitution…”

He said the Apex Council will meet at an appropriate time after the on-going enquiry by Ombudsman (Justice Deepak Verma) is completed.
