Hyderabad: Congress MLA T. Jayaprakash Reddy on Saturday urged the Congress president Sonia Gandhi to finalize the name of a leader, who is loyal to the party, for Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief post.
In a letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, he said he was also one of the contenders for the TPCC chief post and urged the party leadership to select a loyal leader, who can take all the leaders into confidence in carrying out the party activities.
He said many senior leaders were lobbying for the TPCC president post. “When the high command appoints a new TPCC president, everyone used to abide by its decision and work under him. But the situation has now changed in the party,” he said requesting the high command to look into it at the earliest.
The party leadership can get a detailed report on the activities of the party in Telangana before finalizing the new TPCC president. The Congress need a loyal leader, who can work as per directions of the high command and coordinate with senior leaders in Telangana to strengthen the party in all fronts.
“We have a chance to come back to power in the Assembly elections in 2023,” Reddy said. He suggested the high command to constitute a committee with over 25 senior leaders to generate resources for strengthening the party for the elections as most candidates are facing financial problems after unsuccessfully contesting the elections.
“The party can select a leader, who is financially strong and make him in-charge for at least five Assembly constituencies to work for the victory of the candidates in 2023 elections,” he said. He said separate committees should be constituted to study the problems being faced by the unemployed youth, women, minorities and SC/STs in the State.
He requested the high command to finalize the new TPCC president’s name only after the bypoll to Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency to be held either in February or March.
