Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Bulaayi, the annual religious and cultural affair of the Are or Are Kshatriya community, concluded in several parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on a colourful note on Wednesday night. Women belonging to this community celebrated the fete and worshipped the deity for two days on the lines of the floral festival Bathukamma. On the final day of the gestivities, dressed in their best, the devotees danced to the songs prasing the goddess before they immersed the clay idol of goddess Bondoba.

Ainam, major destination of celebrations

Though the celebrations are organised in Areguda and Andevelli villages of Kaghaznagar mandal and certain parts of Dahegaon and Penchikalpet mandals, Ainam village in Dahegaon is popular for hosting the celebrations on a grand scale. Denigens of various habitations in Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency make a beeline to watch the affair in this tiny village.

According to elders of the Are community, the women and girls celebrate the festival on full moon day, after five days following Dasara festival. They prepare the idols of Bondoba by ceremoniously collecting the clay from anthills amid musical bands. They then begin the celebrations. They dance to folk and devotional songs from night till the early morning during the two days. The sleepy villages, which are predominantly inhabited by the members of this agrarian community, come alive with the women folks celebrating the festival. Married women arrive at their parents’ places to take part in the religious affair.
