Asifabad: Four sentenced to seven years for illegal electric snare death

A court in Kumram Bheem Asifabad sentenced four persons to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for causing the death of a man by illegally tapping electricity to set a snare for hunting wild animals in Ravindranagar village eight years ago

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A court here on Thursday sentenced four persons to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each and imposed a fine of Rs.30,000 for causing the death of a person by illegally tapping power from an electric line to hunt wild animals at Ravindranagar village in Chintalamanepalli mandal eight years ago.

Pronouncing the verdict, District and Sessions Court Principal Judge MV Ramesh found Sriram Mandal, Rupkumar Mandal, Ram Mandal and Kina Mandal of Ravindranagar village guilty of killing Sukumar Roy by setting an electrified snare meant for hunting wild animals on the outskirts of the village on the night of September 15, 2008. The unsuspecting Roy came into contact with the snare and succumbed to serious injuries while being shifted to a hospital.


The court examined material evidence and cross-examined eyewitnesses during the trial. The then sub-inspector Raj Kumar had taken up the investigation after registering a case against the four accused based on a complaint lodged by Sheela Rao, the wife of the deceased.
