Kumram Bheem-Asifabad: A person was detained and booked for allegedly smuggling PDS rice to Maharashtra in two vans in Kaghaznagar on Tuesday night. As many as 175 quintals of rice was seized.
Kaghaznagar police said that the arrested person was identified as Kolluri Srinivas, a resident of Kaghaznagar. He was detained when he was found smuggling the rice by two vans, when sleuths of Task Force team carried out vehicle-checks, following a tip.
During the investigations, Srinivas confessed to committing the crime. to make a fast buck by selling the same to potential traders for Rs 20 per kg. He admitted that he had been shipping the rice from Kaghaznagar to Maharashtra for quite a long time. He revealed that he was purchasing the rice from beneficiaries of the public distribution scheme (PDS) at the rate of Rs 10 per kg.
The accused was handed over Kaghaznagar police for taking further action. Task Force Inspector Ranaprathap, Sub-Inspector Sattar, constables Madhu and Tirupati took part in the operation.
