Asifabad tiger frequents to Vemanapalli forests in Mancherial
Locals said that a tiger from the neighbouring district was straying into the forests of Vemanapalli mandal apparently in search of territory and prey at least thrice a month
Mancherial: A tiger from the neighbouring Kumram Bheem Asifabad district is suspected to be frequenting the forests here.
Locals said that a tiger from the neighbouring district was straying into the forests of Vemanapalli mandal apparently in search of territory and prey at least thrice a month.
They stated that it was sighted in the forests of Kottajajulpet, Odduguda, Kharji and Rampur villages. It killed cattle at an irrigation tank between Kharji and Rampur a week ago.
The villagers suspected that the tiger was visiting the forests of Vemanapalli mandal at regular intervals. They stated that it might be facing a threat from wild dogs. The dogs prevented the tiger from consuming leftover meat of the cattle at the tank, they reasoned.
It was learnt that forest officials gathered the tiger’s pugmarks in the forests of Vemanapalli. However, officials were not disclosing details of the tiger citing security reasons. It was said that they were tracking movement of the tiger by installing CCTV cameras and through animal trackers.
