Asifabad’s tribal girl selected for global handball competition

Mancherial: Madavi Kareena, a Raj Gond tribal girl of Wankidi mandal and Intermediate I year student at a Tribal Welfare Residential College, Asifabad, has been picked to participate in an international competition – IX Asian Youth Women Handball championship to be held in Kazakhstan in summer.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Erstwhile Adilabad district Handball Association general secretary Kanaparthi Ramesh said Kareena will take part in the global coaching event from erstwhile Adilabad district for the first time. She will represent India in the championship would take part in a national-level coaching camp in Punjab from March 4 to 16.
A native of Chichupalli village in Wankidi mandal, Kareena bagged the opportunity by excelling in selections which saw participation of 200 players from across the country. It was held in Lucknow from February 12 and 13. She took part in a State-level handball championship conducted at Mahboobnagar in September of 2021 and in the Under-14 SGF national-level handball championship in Madhya Pradesh in 2019.
Meanwhile, erstwhile Adilabad district president Gone Shyamsundar Rao extended financial aid of Rs 25,000 to the girl and congratulated her on being selected for the international event. He stated that the tribal girl had brought recognition to Telangana and the district by representing India in the global championship.
Secretary the organization Raghunath Reddy, secretary Aluguvelli Ramesh Reddy, coach Sunarkar Aravind, members Rakesh, Rajalingu and Kalyan were present.
