Assam CM Sarma lauds Vice-President’s push for stronger Tamil Nadu ties

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan for his maiden visit to the state and welcomed his call for stronger cultural and academic exchanges with Tamil Nadu, saying the engagement would inspire students and deepen national ties

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday thanked Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan for his maiden visit to the state, saying his words on Assam’s progress and emphasis on strengthening cultural and academic ties with Tamil Nadu would inspire the people, particularly students.

In a series of posts on social media, Sarma said Vice-President Radhakrishnan’s visit had been marked by several milestones in Assam’s education sector and expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of the state as the Vice-President proceeded with the next phase of his visit to the region.

“His guidance and words of wisdom will be a source of inspiration to all of us, especially the student community in Assam,” the Chief Minister added.

He also welcomed Vice-President Radhakrishnan’s emphasis on strengthening cultural and academic exchanges between Assam and Tamil Nadu, describing the shared heritage of the two states as a bridge to new possibilities.

Chief Minister Sarma said such exchanges embodied the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat” and could contribute to greater understanding and cooperation between the two regions.

Vice-President Radhakrishnan, addressing a programme at Gauhati University earlier on Monday, had highlighted the importance of language in preserving the memory, wisdom and identity of a civilisation.

He appreciated the translation of Assamese and Tamil literary works into each other and called for greater academic and literary interaction between Assam and Tamil Nadu.

During the programme, the Vice-President released “Bhupen Hazarika: Hundred Years of a Wandering Songs”, edited by Ankuran Dutta and Nani Gopal Mahanta, along with the fifth revised and enlarged edition of “Chandrakanta Abhidhan”.

Vice-President Radhakrishnan also praised Gauhati University’s research in areas including endangered languages, multilingualism, the Brahmaputra Basin, environmental sustainability and Indian Knowledge Systems.

He urged students to pursue research and innovation aimed at addressing community challenges and contribute towards the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’.

The Vice-President also appreciated Assam’s progress in education, infrastructure, connectivity, investment and employment under CM Sarma’s leadership.

He highlighted more than 1.64 lakh merit-based government appointments made in Assam since 2021 and noted the commencement of the first MBA batch at IIM Guwahati.

Chief Minister Sarma said the Vice-President’s message would continue to encourage Assam’s students and strengthen the state’s academic and cultural links with the rest of the country.
