Assam’s Operation Ghost SIM: One arrested from Telangana’s Sangareddy
Post Operation Sindoor, the Assam police had launched "Operation Ghost SIM" across the nation to track the persons who were using these fradulent SIM cards. The Assam police have so far nabbed seven persons including one in Telangana.
Sangareddy: The remote Gollapally village in Kondapur mandal, is in the news after the Assam police nabbed an Assam native, Mofijul Islam (19), who was allegedly using a ghost SIM card and was working in a farmhouse in the village.
Post Operation Sindoor, the Assam police had launched ‘Operation Ghost SIM’ across the nation to track the persons who were using these fraudulent SIM cards. The Assam police have so far nabbed seven persons including one from Telangana.
According to media reports based on a press conference by the Assam DGP, Islam was taken into custody on May 14. With the arrest of Islam and police stating that he had Pakistan links, the otherwise silent village was shocked. The Assam police carried out the operation with the support of Sangareddy police.
According to the police, WhatsApp accounts were created using fraudulent SIM cards with OTPs routed back to Pakistan. These SIM cards were reportedly used for cybercrime and anti-India activities.
