HYDERABAD: For India’s fielding coach T Dilip, the most emotional moment was when he was chanting the National Anthem in the Champions Trophy in Dubai, looked up to the skies and remembered his late mother.
“Well, that was a great feeling. It reminded me of the kind of journey I have had and which I feel is truly memorable mainly thanks to the way my family, especially the way my parents supported me,” Dilip said in an exclusive chat with Telangana Today on returning to his hometown on Tuesday.
“Being a member of the Indian team which featured in four ICC tournament finals is something of a dream come true. I can say God has given me more than I had dreamt of,” said a sentimental Dilip, whose journey began from Warangal in Telangana.
Reflecting on India’s victory in the Champions Trophy, Dilip said it was a fantastic, collective effort that saw the team clinch the title.
“I am very grateful to every member of the Indian team including the head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma and the support staff for the way they worked really hard and saw us win the second ICC Trophy (India won the T-20 World Cup in West Indies last year) within one year,” Dilip said.
“The beauty of this campaign in Dubai was that everyone chipped in every department right through the championship. That also reflected the kind of preparations we have had before the event and also the positive mindset of the entire team,” he explained.
“Well, I can proudly say that the attacking efforts from the outfield are far higher than before which also resulted in crucial run-outs in helping the team’s cause,” he said.
Dilip said this really helped the team to squeeze the pressure every time the opposition looked slightly better off.
On his now-famous ‘best fielder’ , post-match medal presentations in the dressing room, Dilip said that initially it was started to encourage everyone. “But, thankfully, everyone of them took it in the right spirit and I am also grateful to the huge following to this ceremony on social media,” he said with a sense of pride. “This is a huge motivation by itself,” he added.
Interestingly, Dilip will be far away from the high-profile IPL but not away from the game. “I never get tired of being on the job. And,
there is no way I am content with the efforts and results so far. I will continue to keep improving and learning,” he said as he joined his proud father T Srinivas Chary, a retired employee from Praga Tools to celebrate the moment of triumph.
