Hyderabad: In a rare instance of a woman being booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a woman from Bengaluru was charged with sexually exploiting a teenage boy, who is her nephew, and extorting gold and cash from him. According to the Banjara Hills police, the woman allegedly took her nephew, a 14-year-old Class 9 student to a lodge near Charminar where she sexually assaulted him on multiple instances.

“At least on three occasions, the woman, who is from Bengaluru, recorded the sexual act using a mobile phone and with the help of her ex-husband. She then used the video to threaten the boy and extorted gold ornaments weighing around 200 grams and Rs.6 lakh,” Banjara Hills Inspector K Shiva Chandra said.

The incident came to light when the boy’s mother found the gold ornaments and cash that were kept in the house missing and questioned her son. On knowing about the extortion, she approached the police and lodged a complaint, after which the police registered a case against her under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act. She has reportedly been taken into custody.
