Hyderabad: Irrespective of form, Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell always fetches big money in IPL. Like every year, he was in news ahead of the auctions showing his interest to join the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore.
And the RCB too obliged shelling out Rs 14.25 crore to buy him. However, this left the twitterati in splits. While Maxwell failed to perform to his potential in his IPL history, barring just once in 2014, he has always struggled. A few thought shelling out so much money for him was a waste while others feel he can be a handy player for RCB.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said, “I’m going with a 7/10. He’s got international runs, it must count for something. CSK were equally keen to get him, else he would have been purchased at a lesser price. They’ve got with Maxwell, if he comes off it’s great, otherwise RCB always give you something to talk about.”
Meanwhile, RCB player Adam Zampa welcomed his compatriot. He took to Instagram to post a picture where he was seen presenting an RCB cap to his new teammate. “Big Show Maxi is #NowARoyalChallenger! A huge warm welcome to the RCB #ClassOf2021,” he wrote.
