Hyderabad: The Nizamabad district police on Saturday arrested two auto drivers on charges of attacking and robbing a passenger of gold and cash in a forest area at Chinnapur village under Makloor police station limits on December 26.
The arrested were identified as Shaik Mazar alias Mujju, 21, a resident of Kanteshwar and A Santosh alias Sonu, 22, a resident of Chandrasekhar Colony. Producing the two arrested persons before the media, Nizamabad Police Commissioner KR Nagaraju said the accused were working as auto-rickshaw drivers.
A private employee, M Srinuvasulu, hired Sonu’s auto-rickshaw from Nizamabad railway station to his residence in Armoor on December 26 and agreed to pay Rs 400 as fare. On the way to Armoor, Sonu’s friend Mazar boarded the vehicle with a beer bottle at Manickbandar.
Instead of going to Armoor, Sonu drove the vehicle towards a forest area in Chinnapur where he and Mazar attacked Srinivasulu and stole his gold chain, mobile phone and Rs 400 in cash. After Srinivasulu managed to escape from the area, Sonu and Mazar left the spot in the auto.
Based on a complaint from Srinivasulu, the police booked a case against the auto drivers and took up investigation. While checking vehicles at Manickbandar, the police caught Sonu and Mazar, the Police Commissioner said.
