Mancherial: A 36-year old auto-rickshaw driver was brutally murdered when some unknown persons slit his throat between Madhapur and Myadaripet villages in Dandepalli mandal on Thursday night.

Dandepalli Sub-Inspector T Srikanth said that the deceased person was identified as Malepi Praveen Kumar, a resident of Madhapur.

Praveen was found dead in a pool of blood by some motorists on the road between the two villages at around 10.30 pm. The assailants slit his throat using a sickle. He was on his way home at the time of the incident. It is suspected that his illicit relationship with a woman might have claimed his life.

Upon receiving information about the murder, Dandepalli police rushed to the spot and gathered details of the incident. They shifted the body to district headquarters hospital in Mancherial for post-mortem. A case was booked based on a complaint received from the wife of the victim. Investigations were taken up.

Man booked in murder case

A 23-year-old man was booked for allegedly murdering an auto-rickshaw driver at Madhapur village in Dandepalli mandal on Friday.

Dandepalli Sub-Inspector T Srikanth said that the accused was identified as Machcha Pavan Kalyan (23), a driver and the son of Shantha from Madhapur village. The deceased was Malem Praveen Kumar, a 36- year-old, from the same village.

Pavan reportedly beat Praveen to death as he nursed a grudge against him for having an illicit relationship with Shantha for quite a long time. He chased the auto-rickshaw driver and assaulted him at a secluded place. Praveen met Shantha, a widow, after being invited by her over the phone on Thursday at around 7 pm.

Earlier, Praveen was found dead in a pool of blood by some motorists at a spot on the road at around 9 pm. Upon receiving information about the murder, Dandepalli police rushed to the spot and gathered details of the incident. Mancherial ACP Sadhana Rashmi Perumal inspected the scene of the crime and made enquiries into the murder.

Based on a complainant received from Malem Sharad, the wife of Praveen, a case was registered against Pavan under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and SC, ST Atrocities Prevention Act, 1989. Investigations were taken up.
