Hyderabad: US Open 2025 champion Ayush Shetty extended his winning streak, becoming the lone Indian singles player to reach the quarterfinals at the Badminton Asia Championships in China on Thursday.

Ayush defeated Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei in straight games, 21-16, 21-12.

Facing the World No. 20 for the first time, Shetty carried forward his momentum from the opening round. He took early leads in both games, briefly facing a dip in the first before securing the victory. The second game saw complete control from the Indian as he sealed a comfortable straight-games win in 41 minutes.

Shetty will now face a tough challenge against India Open 2026 runner-up Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the quarterfinals, who beat Japan’s Yudai Okimoto 21-18, 21-13.

In women’s singles, PV Sindhu bowed out after a hard-fought match against World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi of China. In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost to World No. 4 Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia. Unnati Hooda and HS Prannoy also exited the tournament.
