Hyderabad: In what could be a major boost, President Mohammed Azharuddin got the password to attend the virtual Special General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that got started in the afternoon. However it was a big setback to the Apex Council who had nominated former Test off-spinner N Shivlal Yadav for the SGM. But in this last-minute drama, the password was given to Azharuddin and his name was reportedly cleared by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

In fact, the BCCI, which had to take legal advice on the present crisis in the HCA, were in a very piquant situation as both Azharuddin and Shivlal Yadav had staked claims to represent the Association. In the end, Azharuddin won the battle. Till late in the evening the BCCI did not send the password to either of the groups.

The BCCI had reportedly asked for the details of the current imbroglio to both the group and sought legal opinion. Azharuddin had clearly stated as president he had the right to attend the BCCI meeting while the Apex Council members insisted that they hold the meeting and appointed Shivlal, the former HCA president and former BCCI ad-hoc president, as the Association’s representative for the Board meeting. Azhar pointed out that Shivlal’s appointment was made after he had adjourned the April 11 AGM and therefore it was an illegal one.
