HYDERABAD: Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd Azharuddin and TJS president M Kodandaram have been sworn in as Members of Legislative Council (MLC) here on Monday.
Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy administered the oath to them. Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.
The Congress government had issued a gazette notification on Sunday nominating Kodandaram and Mohd Azharuddin as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.
Azharuddin had taken oath as Minister in October last. There was a lot of uncertainty over the former cricketer’s future as Minister, as it was mandatory for him to be a member of either Assembly or Council within six months. The deadline expires on April 30.
Accordingly, last week, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla had approved the nominations of Azharuddin and Kodandaram, paving way for their swearing in as council members.
