Jagtial: Upset over being humiliated by her friends, B.Tech student Katipelli Nitya (21) died by suicide in Jabithapur village of Jagtial Rural mandal.

According to police, Nitya was a third-year engineering student studying in Hyderabad and staying at a private hostel in KPHB Colony. Recently, two of her friends, Vaishnavi and Sanjana, allegedly humiliated her, saying she was lagging behind in her studies.

Distressed by their remarks, Nitya returned home and attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on July 2. Her family members rushed her to a private hospital in Karimnagar, where she died while undergoing treatment on Friday night.

Based on a complaint lodged by her family, the police have registered a case against Vaishnavi and Sanjana and launched an investigation.
