Nizamabad: Central Water Commission (CWC) officials closed the 14 Babli project gates on Thursday in the presence of irrigation officials from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The Supreme court had ordered that every year the Babli project gates should be lifted on July 1 and closed on October 29 to facilitate flow of Godavari water into Sri Ram Sagar Project.
This monsoon, a total of 356.23 TMC of Godavari water flowed into SRSP in the last five months. The project released 225.76 TMC’s of excess water downstream into the river Godavari. The SRSP now has 90.313 TMC of water and was receiving inflows of 9,984 cusecs.
CWC EE N. Srinivas Rao, SRSP SE D. Susheel Kumar, Nanded district EE N.P. Gavane of Maharashtra and Lower Godavari division EE R. Mohan Rao of Andhra Pradesh were oresent when Babli project gates were closed.
