Suryapet: The body of an infant was found at roadside on the outskirts of Kondapuram village of Chilkur mandal in the district on Saturday morning. The women agricultural workers, who were on their way to work, found the body of the baby girl and alerted the police.

Getting the information, Chilkur police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to government hospital at Kodad.

According to the police, the baby was abandoned by unidentified persons at Kondapur after wrapping the baby in a bed sheet. There was a cannula to the right hand of the baby and umbilical cord clip was also not removed.

The police are yet to ascertain whether the baby was abandoned while it was alive or after the death. Chilkur police filed a case and took up investigation into the matter.

“A child can be legally and anonymously relinquished at a specialised adoption agency. To find the nearest specialised adoption agency, call ChildLine at 1098 or go to http://cara.nic.in/Stakeholders/India_map.html and select any state.”
