Bad roads, people stage novel protests in Telangana
BRS leaders and residents staged novel protests in Kamareddy and Suryapet over damaged roads and official inaction. A councillor sat in a flooded street, while activists planted paddy saplings and went fishing on pothole-riddled roads to highlight waterlogging and commuter hardships
Hyderabad: Irked by official apathy towards repairing damaged roads and the hardships faced by commuters, people and BRS leaders staged novel protests at different places in the State.
In Kamareddy, BRS councillor from the 46th division G Laxminarayana staged a novel protest over the officials’ failure to repair a damaged road. He sat in the middle of a flooded street in the town on Saturday and urged officials to take up the long-pending repair works.
The BRS councillor said water stagnated on the Kamareddy-Rajanna Sircilla road every year during the rainy season. Motorists faced severe difficulties while driving through the flooded road, while pedestrians were forced to struggle to cross it, he said.
He alleged that a culvert was supposed to be constructed when the railway bridge was developed in the area, but the contractor did not execute the work. As a result, water and sewage stagnated on the Sircilla road whenever it rained as the area was at a lower level, he said.
“Despite repeated complaints and appeals, R&B and municipal officials are not initiating measures to address the issue. They just give assurances but the works are not taken up,” Laxminarayana complained.
Meanwhile, people and BRS activists staged another novel protest over poor road conditions in Suryapet. BRS cadres planted paddy saplings on the main road to highlight the condition of the road.
Demanding the commencement of road works on the main route from Tungaturthi to Suryapet, BRS cadres staged the protest on Saturday on a road riddled with potholes. They planted paddy saplings and even went fishing with rods to highlight the waterlogging on the road.
