Warangal Urban: With rapid constructions of the apartments and other buildings replacing the traditional tiled houses in the cities and even in small towns, the population of the birds is declining.
One of the main reasons behind this is that the birds are unable to build their nests in the urban areas. Keeping this in mind, a bird lover, wildlife photographer and the Founder Secretary of the Orugallu Wildlife Society (OWLS) Shyam Sunder Sharma of Warangal has come up with an innovative idea of making the nests by the bamboo poles.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Shyam Sundar said, “Building of nests has become a challenge for the birds, particularly for the house sparrows due to different reasons. In view of this, I have decided to build natural nests for such birds and protect their habitats. So procured hollow bamboo poles from Bhadradri Kothagudem district and cut them into pieces and made a hole in order to facilitate the birds to enter the bamboo nest,” he added.
District Forest Officer (DFO), Jayashankar Bhupalpally, K Purushotham has appreciated Shyam Sunder for coming up with bamboo nests adding that the bird lovers can fit these bamboo nests in their apartments also. “It is an innovative initiative by Shyam Sundar, people can emulate him and help the birds to grow in the cities,” he added.
