Hyderabad: More than a month after the registration of a POCSO case against Bandi Bageerath and nearly a month after his arrest, the police are largely silent on the progress of the investigation, triggering speculation over the status.
While the Pet Basheerabad police had earlier disclosed details relating to the arrest, custody proceedings and collection of evidence, no significant official updates have been issued in recent weeks.
Officials have not revealed whether forensic reports have been received, whether witness examinations have been completed, or when the charge sheet is likely to be filed.
The case, which drew considerable public attention due to the suspect’s political background, is currently under investigation.
The police have already recorded statements from key witnesses and gathered material evidence, but officials are declining to comment on the next stage of the investigation.
On the other hand, in POCSO cases, investigation officers are generally expected to complete inquiries on priority and file charge sheets at the earliest.
Depending on the nature of evidence, witness statements, and forensic analysis, charge sheets are typically filed within 60 to 90 days, although complex investigations may take longer.
For now, with the case moving beyond its initial stages, attention is on whether the police will soon file a charge sheet before the court.
