Hyderabad: Telangana State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday justified the comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Telangana Statehood issue while replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in Rajya Sabha.

Interacting with media persons, he said the BJP will reply in a fitting manner if anyone attempts to criticise Modi on the issue. He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was trying to raise Telangana sentiment once again by blaming Modi on the Statehood issue.

“The Chief Minister is trying to divert the attention of the people from the remarks he made during a recent press conference proposing a new Constitution. The people are furious over the proposal and to divert their attention, the ruling party is attempting to raise the Telangana sentiment in the State once again,” he said.

Sanjay said it was the BJP that strongly supported Statehood for Telangana and senior BJP leader and former union Minister late Sushma Swaraj extended support to the cause. “She raised the issue in Parliament on several occasions. But the Congress delayed the formation of separate Telangana,” he said.

Sanjay said the BJP will continue to stage protests across the State on the Chief Minister’s proposal for a new Constitution. When his attention was drawn to the Centre’s failure to implement the promises made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, he did not give a direct reply and instead, blamed the Chief Minister for failing to bringing them to the Centre’s notice in the last seven years.
