Hyderabad: The anticipatory bail petition filed by Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, was withdrawn before the High Court for the State of Telangana on Thursday after the accused was taken into police custody.

N. Naveen Kumar, Counsel appearing for Bageerath had on Wednesday addressed a letter to the Registry seeking permission to withdraw the anticipatory bail petition, contending that the plea had become infructuous in view of the arrest of the petitioner.

The matter was listed under the “withdrawal” caption before Justice T. Madhavi Devi on Thursday. The Court permitted withdrawal of the petition accordingly. It may be recalled that the anticipatory bail plea had witnessed elaborate arguments on the previous Thursday and Friday. During the course of hearing, the Court declined to grant any interim protection to Bageerath.

The Bench had also taken note of the statement of the victim girl, which was placed before the Court by Public Prosecutor Palle Nageswara Rao. After completion of arguments, the matter had been reserved for orders to May 21. However, before orders could be pronounced, the accused was taken into custody by the police, rendering the petition infructuous.
